What a year it’s been for football. From the World Cup in Russia to Real Madrid winning their third consecutive Champions League title, 2018 has been an incredible year. Here at Socios.com, Digital Communications Manager Calvin Sammut took a look back at some of the funniest moments 2018 had to offer.

10 — Benatia’s handshake fail

After helping your side win their 7th title in a row, you would think that every single person would want a piece of you. However, as Medhi Benatia found out, that is not always the case. The poor defender was left humiliated after being blanked by two beautiful models.

9 — Brozovic, the football genius

You might be smart, but you will never be Marcelo Brozovic smart.

8 — World Cup throw-in fail

There is no stage bigger than the World Cup. So when Milad Mohammadi was summoned to take a throw-in, he knew it was time to have his World Cup moment. Unfortunately for him, his attempt at a somersault throw-in will forever be remembered as one of the biggest fails of the 2018 World Cup.

7 — Marco Ianni's over the top celebration

Scoring a late goal and celebrating by mocking your opponent is a disgraceful act unless you do it to Jose Mourinho. Then you’re a legend.

6 — Paul Pogba’s never-ending penalty run-up

In 2009, Usain Bolt made history after running 100m in 9.58 seconds. In 2018, Paul Pogba took over 10 seconds to get to kick a penalty with the ball merely 5 meters away from him. To make it worse he missed the bloody thing!

5 — Michy Batshuayi’s own goal

After netting a crucial goal in a World Cup match, the whole world held it’s breath to see how Batshuayi would celebrate his impressive achievement. The Belgian opted for the classic smash the ball in your face.

4 — Gerard Pique 0–1 Bus side mirror

Prior to Inter vs Barcelona, one of the biggest talking points was about how World Cup winner Gerard Pique would deal with Mauro Icardi. However, the Argentinian wasn’t even Pique’s biggest headache.

3 — Jose Mourinho shows the water bottles who’s boss

Chat shit, get banged. After seeing his side score a late late winner to seal a spot in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, Jose Mourinho unleashed his wrath on a gang of water bottles who had been spotted mocking him for his boring football.

2 — Marouane Fellaini wants his famous locks back, at all cost!

“I WANT IT BACK, I WANT IT BACK and I WANT IT NOW”

1 — Raheem Sterling’s crystal clear penalty

Stopping Manchester City from scoring is no easy task. So when Shakhtar took on the Citizens in a crucial Champions League tie, they knew they had to get all the help on offer. To help shore things up at the back, the Ukrainian Champions recruited the help of a paranormal defender. Unfortunately for them, even he couldn’t stop an in-form Sterling without fouling him. Jesus converted the penalty and City went on to record their biggest win in Champions League history.
